International Observatory on Working Conditions of Social Workers
The International Observatory on the Working Conditions of Social Workers is an initiative promoted by faculty members in Social Work at the Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT).
It is an independent structure, dedicated to scientific research and the dissemination of knowledge, established in 2024, with the capacity to form partnerships with professionals from the fields of Social Sciences, Health, and the Humanities, as well as with national and international entities.
The Observatory’s core purpose is to contribute to the understanding of the professional reality of social workers.
Purpose
To deepen knowledge about the working conditions of social workers.
Mission
To contribute to strengthening the professional community of Social Work practitioners by promoting and developing knowledge about their working conditions.
Vision
To establish itself as a global reference in the production and dissemination of knowledge, monitoring the implementation and evolution of public policies, and supporting continuous monitoring and research into the professional reality of social workers.
General Objectives

To analyze the jurisdictional scope of intervention of social workers and their respective socio-labor conditions;

To develop and conduct studies on the working conditions of social workers in different global contexts;

To promote scientific knowledge and its dissemination through initiatives focused on reflection, debate, and publication.
The activities of the Observatory are carried out by researchers from ISMT and may also involve other researchers, provided they obtain majority approval from the members of the Observatory.
