Lecture "The reality of the migration issue: how can/should Social Services intervene?" with Paulo Pereira

On 27 October, at 10:30 a.m., the Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) will host the lecture “The Reality of the Migration Issue: How Can/Should Social Work Intervene?”, featuring Paulo Pereira, Social Worker and Director of Centro Porta Amiga AMI – Coimbra.
The session will take place in Room 4 of Bernardo Albuquerque Street, No. 4 (Coimbra) and is organised within the curricular unit Social Studies Seminar I, from the Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, under the coordination of lecturers Manuel Menezes and Noémia Cunha.
The lecture aims to encourage a critical discussion about the current challenges of migration in Portugal and the role of Social Work in supporting individuals and communities facing social vulnerability.
Biographical Note:Paulo Alexandre Machado Pereira holds a degree in Social Work from the former Instituto Superior de Serviço Social de Coimbra (now ISMT) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Drug Addiction and Psychosocial Pathologies from ISMT.
He has been working since 2000 with people experiencing poverty and social exclusion, and has been Director of Centro Porta Amiga AMI – Coimbra since 2001.
He was a lecturer at ISMT between 2002 and 2009, and remains deeply involved in cultural and social associations as a musician, artistic director and producer at Amazing Arts Companhia de Artes de Coimbra, and founder of the Coimbra Gospel Choir. He is also a political activist.
