The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) is hosting the Kapuscinski Lecture - Portugal 2025 on 3 June 2025 at 6pm (Lisbon time), dedicated to the theme: ‘Social vulnerability, disasters and climate change: women and indigenous peoples’.
The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) is hosting the Kapuscinski Lecture - Portugal 2025 on 3 June 2025 at 6pm (Lisbon time), dedicated to the theme: ‘Social vulnerability, disasters and climate change: women and indigenous peoples’.
The international event will have as its guest speaker the Minister of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil, Sônia Guajajara, considered one of the 100 most influential people in the world by TIME magazine. Internationally recognised for her work in defence of indigenous peoples' rights, environmental and climate justice, she stood out at the United Nations Climate Conference (COP-27), where she advocated strengthening the role of indigenous people in global environmental policies.
The Minister will bring a unique perspective on the challenges of historical exclusion, climate risk and sustainability, with a special focus on women and indigenous peoples and the role of traditional knowledge as a response to contemporary crises.
The conference will feature opening speeches by Luís Marinho, President of Assembly of the Region of Coimbra, and will be moderated by Noémia Cunha, coordinator of the ISMT Postgraduate Course in ‘Research and Security Against Disasters, Crises and Accidents’.
