The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) is organising the International Seminar "Social Work in History: Social Movements and Human Rights" on 26 March 2026. The event will take place in Room 2, at the Rua Gomes Freire Building and will be broadcast live, allowing for the participation of a wide audience and the technical-scientific exchange between professionals, researchers, and students in the field via the link: https://zoom.us/j/4927774499?omn=97867833553.

The initiative, organised by the coordination of the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work, proposes a reflection on the evolution of the profession, the analysis of social issues, and the role of collective movements in guaranteeing fundamental rights. The opening session will take place at 9:45 , featuring interventions by Manuel Castelo Branco, President of the Board of Directors, and lecturer Dulce Simões, Vice-President of the Board of Directors.

The programme highlights a keynote lecture by lecturer Marilda Iamamoto, focusing on the relationship between Social Work, labour, and the dynamics of social movements, followed by a tribute to lecturer Maria Carmelita Yazbek. In the afternoon, the debate will focus on the panel "Social Movements, Institutional Power, and Human Rights", with contributions on racial issues and environmental justice presented by specialists from Portuguese and Brazilian institutions. The closing will be marked by the presentation of the book “Social Work in Portuguese-speaking Countries”.
