ISMT hosted seminar on Strategy and Leadership focusing on continuous evolution

The Miguel Torga Higher Institute welcomed Mário Barreiros for a session dedicated to the challenges of strategic management and industrial leadership.

On the 18th of December, the Miguel Torga Higher Institute (ISMT) held a seminar entitled "Strategy and Leadership - To be overtaken, you don’t need to stop; you just need to maintain the same speed". The event was organised by lecturer Célia Santos, within the scope of the Strategic Management unit for the undergraduate degrees in Human Resources Management and Management and Entrepreneurship.

The session featured a presentation by Mário Barreiros, currently Industrial Director at Iber-Oleff. With a 32-year career in the automotive industry, the speaker shared his extensive experience in managing multidisciplinary teams and developing leadership skills in both national and international contexts. His academic background in Mechanical Engineering, complemented by specialisations in management methodologies from the Japan Kaizen Institute, General Motors, and Toyota, provided the basis for a technical reflection on operational efficiency and team leadership.

During the event, central themes such as the implementation of strategic plans and the importance of constant adaptation in a competitive market were addressed. Mário Barreiros also highlighted current projects, such as the decarbonisation plan he is currently leading, and linked tactical discipline — reinforced by his experience as a national fencing champion — with the resilience required to face contemporary organisational challenges.
