ISMT and CIM-RC mark the European Day of Languages in Downtown Coimbra

The Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) and the Intermunicipal Community of the Coimbra Region (CIM-RC) are promoting, on the 25th of September, from 2:30 pm, a set of activities to mark the European Day of Languages. The initiatives take place at the ISMT facilities, located in downtown Coimbra, and are freely accessible to the general population, visitors, and the student community.

The programme places linguistic diversity at the centre of the urban experience. The activity "Somos o que falamos" (We are what we speak) invites tourists walking around the downtown area to participate in a short Portuguese language workshop. For 10 minutes, participants have the opportunity to engage with the national language and learn basic everyday expressions, fostering direct interaction.

Concurrently, a conference themed "Sem idade para aprender: A aprendizagem de línguas ao longo do ciclo de vida" (Never too old to learn: Language learning throughout the life cycle) will be held, led by the lecturer Joana Marta Simões. The session addresses the relationship between language and human expression, celebrating the multiculturalism present in Coimbra's daily life, a dynamic continuously driven by the international students and visitors who arrive in the city.
