International Colloquium addresses Social Work in Health and Rehabilitation
Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT) will host an International Colloquium dedicated to the theme "Social Work in Health and Rehabilitation - Brazil, Germany and Portugal: experiences and challenges" on the 9th of October 2026, from 13:00 to 16:30, in room 1 at the Rua Bernardo de Albuquerque campus. The initiative is promoted within the scope of the Social Work, Health and Rehabilitation course unit of the Social Work undergraduate degree, with the aim of marking World Mental Health Day.
The session features communications from three professionals who share the reality of their practices in different geographical contexts. Carina Dornelas, from the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, will address the "Values of Social Work in health: from ethics to professional practice in Brazil". Paula Correia, from Dr. Loew Soziale Dienstleistungen in Neumarkt, will present the theme "Rehabilitating in mental health: the experience of a social worker in Germany". The national perspective will be provided by Patrícia Sá, from Associação Quinta das Pontes, with the communication "Social Work and mental health in Portugal: practices, challenges and opportunities".
Following the individual presentations, a round table titled "Three countries, different contexts: what can we learn?" will take place, moderated by lecturer Manuel Menezes. The organisation and opening session are led by ISMT Social Work lecturer Sónia Ribeiro. The event is free of charge and open to the entire student community and the general public.
