Digital Video Editing
 

LEARNING OUTCOMES
 

This curricular unit aims to develop skills in video editing techniques, in order to interpret and develop audio-visual content. It is also intended that students develop the capacity for analysis and critical reflection. To this end, the key concepts of film language will be addressed, including the construction of a narrative, and at the level of principles and editing practices. The student will also assimilate the basic and theoretical notions of digital video editing.
It is also objective of this curricular unit that the student plan, structure and organize the documents accompanying an audio-visual work. Additionally, the main editing techniques using a non-linear editing software will be explained and demonstrated.
From the consolidation of these concepts and techniques, it is intended that the student be creative in order to design and implement an audio-visual content, through the use of video editing software.

STUDY PROGRAMME
 

1. Fim Narrative
1.1 Film narrative and narrative elements of cinema (plans, scenes, sequences, angles, psychological effects, camera movements...)
1.2 From Analogue to Digital
2. Montage and Editing
2.1 Understanding the Montage (Narrative Montage – American School – and Meaning Montage – Russian School)
2.2 Goals of Montage and Editing (timing, rhythm, cut, 180º rule, 30º rule, continuity of action, continuity of dialogue...)
2.3 Editing Types (linear editing and non-linear editing)
3. Digital Video Editing (Development of audio-visual projects and non-linear editing)
3.1 Pre-Production: From idea to storyboard (idea definition, story-line, synopsis, treatment, structure, script and storyboard)
3.2 Presentation of non-linear video editing software (Adobe Premiere CC / Final Cut Pro X)
3.3 Formats and Resolutions (importing and organizing audio-visual files)
3.4 Creating and Editing Plans and Sequences (colour correction, basic video editing, sound mixing, exporting files...)
4. Final Project (creation and development of an audio-visual content in conjunction with the Sound Lab I curricular unit)
