Professor Ana Elisabete Ferreira, from Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT), co-authored with André Dias Pereira the article “The ‘Family Doctor’ in Portugal. Key Connections with the Social Security System”, recently published in the prestigious Italian journal Istituzioni del Federalismo: Rivista di studi giuridici e politici.

Professor Ana Elisabete Ferreira, from Instituto Superior Miguel Torga (ISMT), co-authored with André Dias Pereira the article “The ‘Family Doctor’ in Portugal. Key Connections with the Social Security System”, recently published in the prestigious Italian journal Istituzioni del Federalismo: Rivista di studi giuridici e politici (No. 4, pp. 977-996).

The article analyzes the central role of family doctors in the Portuguese National Health Service, highlighting their role as the first point of contact for users, but also as a fundamental link between the health and social security systems. The research highlights the importance of these professionals in promoting continuous and personalized care, issuing medical certificates, supporting chronic patients, certifying pathologies and collaborating with social action services.

This work reinforces the recognition of the quality of the research developed at ISMT and its contribution to the reflection on public health policies.
